Royal Hospital Hurghada has achieved a new medical milestone in the field of maxillofacial surgery, after the medical team successfully saved the upper jaw of a patient suffering from a highly complex condition caused by bone infection and bone decay resulting from black fungus infection spreading through the jaw and sinuses.
This case is considered one of the delicate cases that require specialized medical expertise and full cooperation between more than one specialty, due to the sensitivity of the upper jaw area, its proximity to the sinuses and nasal cavity, and the risk of infection spreading to the surrounding bones and tissues.
A Specialized Medical Team in Maxillofacial Surgery
This success was led by:
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Emara
Assistant Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery – Kasr Al Ainy.
With distinguished participation from:
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gamal
Consultant and Lecturer of Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
Precise Surgery to Save the Upper Jaw
The surgery included several delicate steps, including the removal of the infected and necrotic parts of the bone, along with comprehensive cleaning of the affected bone, while carefully preserving the structure of the upper jaw and sinuses as much as possible.
The surgical intervention also helped limit the spread of black fungus within the oral and nasal cavities, supporting the stability of the case and reducing potential complications.
Safe Management of a Complex Medical Case
Despite the patient’s associated health challenges, including hypothyroidism and acute kidney failure, the case was successfully managed, by God’s grace, through the integrated coordination between the surgical team, anesthesia team, and intensive care team.
This cooperation helped ensure the surgery was performed with the highest levels of safety and precision inside the operating room at Royal Hospital.
Stable Condition and Postoperative Follow-Up
After the surgery was completed, the patient left the operating room in a stable condition and was referred for follow-up at the outpatient clinic to continue the required medical care and monitor recovery after the surgical intervention.
Advanced Care in Specialized Medical Fields at Royal Hospital
Royal Hospital Hurghada confirms that this achievement reflects the hospital’s readiness to manage delicate and complex cases across various specialties, especially maxillofacial surgeries, through a specialized medical team, advanced medical equipment, and an integrated care system that begins with accurate diagnosis and continues through post-treatment follow-up.
Royal Hospital continues to provide advanced medical services in highly specialized fields, under the supervision of a distinguished group of Egyptian and international medical professionals, ensuring safe and outstanding care for the people of Hurghada and the Red Sea Governorate
